EXPLANATIONS

USDA zones are zones of average minimum temperatures, so for example zone 7 or less means a plant is hardy pretty well anywhere in the UK, zone 8 is hardy but some plants may need some winter protection in areas of exposure or cold, zone 9 plants will need winter protection unless sommewhere very sheltered such as the coast, town centres etc, zone 10 needs protection or you are living somewhere with nice warm winters
