USDA zones are zones of average minimum winter temperatures, e.g. zone 7 or less on a plant means it is hardy pretty well anywhere in the UK, zone 8 is still hardy but some plants may need some winter protection in areas of severe cold or exposure, zone 9 plants will need some winter protection unless in an urban or coastal situation, and zone 10 needs bringing indoors
